I remember as a child being incredibly aware of colour and light, but it was not until my teens that I really started looking at works of art. Paintings were my first love, but to paint somehow wasn’t an option. I studied history of art at the Courtauld Institute of Art, and then went on to work as a picture researcher for leading art publishers for many years. This experience has proved invaluable, not only in training the eye but also in providing a visual store that permeates my awareness and feeds my work.

I graduated in 2003 from BCUC (Bucks Chilterns University College) with a First Class Fine Art degree, and am now exhibiting regularly.

What is my work about?
I am continuously exploring the infinite possibilities of paint, how it is moulded, sensed, and manipulated through a variety of processes. I use thin layers of paint for their transparent qualities, and for creating illusory depths and space. The starting point is often from landscapes that surround me in Oxfordshire, but whatever the subject matter my main concern is the transformation of density by light. The paintings are deceptively simple, and evoke a sense of space, stillness and light.

Sacha Craddock, art critic, said ‘The sense of silence and space is managed brilliantly. The paintings have their own autonomous sense of self and place and space. They are real – working in their own terms. They are beautiful paintings.
